"What the Press Say"
Royalty, Premiership footballers, country gents, drug dealers, social climbers and car enthusiasts rejoice! That cast list sums up the broad appeal of the original luxury 4x4,
The Range Rover Autobiography is among the most expensive Range Rovers you can buy, and boasts some luxurious equipment as standard. This means that, along with the equipment that can be found on the Range Rover Vogue SE – like automatic climate control, a Meridian sound system, and front and rear parking cameras – you also get a heated leather and wood steering wheel, larger alloy wheels and a panoramic roof as standard.
The Range Rover Autobiography is a luxury car first and an off-roader second. It has a plush interior, boasts impressive levels of equipment, and road noise is almost non-existent. However, the Range Rover is still an excellent car when it comes to the rough stuff, giving it a versatility that class rivals simply can’t compete with.
Our test car was a premium-level Autobiography powered by the new twin-turbo 4.4 litre diesel SDV8 (expanded from the previous 3.6 V8) now packing a generous 334bhp at 3500rpm plus 516lb ft of torque delivered between 1750rpm and 3000rpm, which turns out to be the rev band in which the engine spends most of its time, given that it’s attached to a standard eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, with paddle-shifts. Performance is effortless: The car has a 135mph top speed and zero to 62mph acceleration in a decidedly brisk 6.9sec yet the engine rarely gets close to its theoretical 4500rpm redline. You only really hear the engine as it starts: even the idle is subdued.
